25-35% of teachers have a problem with substance abuse

25-40% use anti-depressants

Personally, I found that my alcohol consumption never directly interfered with the teaching day. However, I would begin my nightly hammering on my way home each afternoon. I was especially talented at pounding 40oz Ice House bottles by disguising the amber elixir in an old Hokie cup.

On evenings and weekends, I'd puddle through grading papers and essays as well as planning with my Kangaroo Cab or Uncle Evan (100 Proof) before staggering into bed around 10:00.

The stress of my job and my natural predisposition to alcohol nearly killed me.

Thankfully, I hit bottom 2 and a half years ago and found the courage to stop.

There's a lot of truth behind your statement.
